Managing Your Child's Fever at Home

Essential tips for parents on when to worry about fever and how to keep your child comfortable.

Fever is one of the most common reasons parents contact their pediatrician. While fever can be alarming, it's actually a sign that your child's immune system is fighting an infection. For children over 3 months, a fever under 102°F typically doesn't require treatment unless your child is uncomfortable. Keep your child hydrated, dress them in light clothing, and monitor their behavior. Seek medical attention if your infant under 3 months has a fever over 100.4°F, if the fever lasts more than 3 days, or if your child shows signs of dehydration, difficulty breathing, or extreme lethargy. Trust your instincts – you know your child best.
